The short-term volunteer who stayed for three weeks left us, but the other ten short-term volunteers from last week stayed for another week!

One crew worked on the siding and the front porch railing of the Yadao house Monday.  Another crew spackled and sanded, spackled and sanded, and cleaned up at the Kahahane house.  And the third crew finished the shear wall and prepared to set the trusses on the Ho’opai house.

Volunteers moved the trusses that had previously been built at our campsite to the Ho’opai house Tuesday and began setting them in place!  Eric Cajudoy brought a truck and a forklift to help transport and lift the trusses.  Volunteers on the Kahahane house were delighted that the spackling and sanding process was completed, so they were able to begin painting the primer coat on walls and ceilings.  The Yadao house passed its inspection, so the volunteers there started the spackling process.

Volunteers continued setting trusses and blocking and installing hurricane straps on the Ho’opai house Wednesday.  Volunteers proceeded spackling the Yadoa house, and on the Kahahane house they sanded and wiped down the primer coat and began the final coat.

On Thursday volunteers began sheeting and framing the Ho’opai house after completing the last of the trusses! On the Kahahne house, volunteers painted, cleaned up, prepared the floor for laminate, and began installing the laminate flooring.  Spackling continued on the Yadao house.

Volunteers took the first set of kitchen cabinets that were shipped here from Goessel, KS, to the Kahahane house today!  Other volunteers did some touchup painting and flooring work. Volunteers continued framing the Ho’opai house and spackling and cleaning floors on the Yadao house.

On Monday evening, along with delicious Thai food made by our cook, the volunteers enjoyed pancit and rice cake with cheese given to us by the Yadao family. We had another special evening meal on Thursday.  Brandy and Eric Cajudoy as well as the Yadaos joined us! The Cajudoys brought more poke, and the Yadaos brought salmon and Polynesian spaghetti.  Those were served along with pork tenderloins, roasted potatoes, spinach salad, homemade bread, and a fruit dessert!
