Lahaina, HI – Apr. 19- 25, 2026

Sunday, April 19^th we welcomed 8 Weekly Volunteers from Arizona – Steve, Randall, Audrey, Takia, Tor, Grant, Trent, and Kim.  We also welcomed Larry, Doe, Pete, Rob, John R, John K, and Judy!

The crews have been working hard and coming home hot, sweaty, and ready for a quick trip to the beach to cool off.  While there, some have taken up snorkeling among the coral reef and finding beautiful fish out there.  Wednesday several of us sighted turtles in the water – in the area we were standing/swimming. They didn’t seem worried about us being nearby at all!

At the Asuncion House, the Volunteers are hard at work finishing up the walls and getting ready for flooring.

The Ho’opai House kitchen cabinets are in and the flooring is almost complete.  One volunteer estimates they will need a few hours to finish the floorings, then it will be time to start painting the walls (and not getting any on the new flooring). And the view of the ocean from this house is spectacular!

At the Madrigal House, the outside walls are done and the inside walls have been put up, with a few adjustments in last-minute changes.  It’s amazing to see the major differences almost daily.

It’s hard to believe we have just over a week to go until the majority of us are heading home.  A new Team will be arriving a few days before the current Team leaves to get acquainted with things here before they take over.

For the current Leadership Team (Project Director, Office Manager, Construction Supervisor, Crew Leader, and Asst Cook) it’s been a month of getting to know each other, establishing lasting friendships, and seeing the work we’ve all helped accomplish move forward in helping those affected by the 2023 Lahaina Fire.  For the Weekly Volunteers (bi-weekly here in Lahaina), they are meeting new friends, working closely with one another, and being a major part of helping residents here feel cared for, and gain hope that they will be in their new home, soon!
