The RV camp lies in a green field surrounded by cornfields and pine covered hills.  This week the team consisted of 6 volunteers: Steve and Pam Haskin (PD and OM) from Duncannon, PA; Steve and Cindy Detwiler from Flat Rock, NC; and Leonard and Twila Hochstedler from Kolona, IA.  Our first week has been replacing the floor and broken joists in the master bedroom, bath and closet on the first floor of a 100+ year old house.  The old hardwood floor was collapsing into the crawl space, the bathroom wall was suspended, no longer supported by the joists.  In 4 days the team removed the floors and joists, installed new joists and a center support beam, laid foam panels between the joists for insulation and installed most of the new subfloor.  Our client is a single woman with failing eyesight.  Her joy over the work being done is contagious.  She said that she loves listening to us as we work, calling out cutting instructions, asking for tools, cheering when a major step goes right.
Next week our goal is to put the subfloor in the bathroom, and lay all of the flooring, which should be accomplished in 2-3 days.  Then it’s on to another project.
