Conroe, TX – SYP – June 8-14, 2025
Adam Blough and Lucinda Shirk, two of the yearlong volunteers as well as Don and Rachel Horst, completed their assignment in Conroe, TX this week. Mary Joyce Wise from NY, Maik Hinz from Germany, Katie & Jonathon Snyder from IN, Rose Kilmer, Sarah Zimmerman from MO and EMU student Ruach Deng from South Sudan will continue to serve next week. Joining us this week as incoming Office Manager is Emily Goertz from WA, Abe Wiebe from Manitoba as Project Director and Ed Basinger from KS, serving as Crew Leader. Our team of weekly volunteers included 7 young ladies and their driver and his wife, who came from Wisconsin, bringing the total of volunteers this week to 20.
At the Williams house drywall, texturing, painting, trim and caulking was done, along with additional cleaning. Flooring, transition strips and quarter round was installed at the Garney house. Tasks at the Felbe house included lots of cleaning, installation of casing for windows, mudding and sanding as well as some painting.
Highlights of the week included getting the air conditioner repaired in the 15 passenger van, playing volleyball and corn toss games after the rains, as well as relaxing around the dining room table for lively rounds of Catan. Having the opportunity to visit with some of the homeowners was special too.
Next week we hope to finish up flooring at the Falbe house; install roll in shower at the Garney house; finish plumbing at the Williams house and begin repairing porches and building the ramp at the Essman house.
This being the transition week, we enjoyed welcoming Emily Gertz, Abe Wiebe and Ed Basinger and sending blessings and best wishes along with Adam Blough and Lucinda Shirk as they headed off to their next assignments in Florida. Thank you, Hope Disaster Recovery, for hosting us in your volunteer center and giving us the opportunity to serve the folks here in your community.
On behalf of the Conroe, TX team, Rachel Horst
