Katie & Jonathon Snyder, year-long volunteers, continue to serve as Crew Leaders until early August.  Also here for this week were Crew Leaders Norm Yoder and Dale Horst, Project Director Lynn Miller, Office Manager Emily Goertz, and cooks Sovilla Plank and Fannie Mae Yoder.   The weekly volunteers were a SYP group from IN, with a total of 16 youth and adults.   Incoming Office Manager Thaine Dirks arrived on Wednesday.

Crews worked on six houses this week: Major drywall hanging and finishing work was completed on one home. Flooring and baseboard installation continued at the Schafer home and is nearing completion. Ramp decking was completed and railing begun at another home until rain halted that work.  Late in the week, a small crew returned to the Hinojosa home to install kitchen cabinets and the sink, with some work remaining there.  At the Springfield home, a complete roof tear-off of multiple layers, repairing of roof structure, and reroofing was accomplished in four days by a skilled crew.  Final prep and fascia/soffit painting remain to complete the roof job, and interior work to remove and replace damaged sheetwork is still to be done.

Highlights of the week included the removal of a badly-damaged roof and installation of the amazing new roof in four days, even though work was interrupted by major rain showers more than once. Other noteworthy events were an exploding casserole (you’ll have to ask!) and an exploding tire on the same day, and several rolling thunderstorms.

Next week we hope to finish several jobs that are near completion and have new homes to work on lined up by the Hope Disaster Recovery staff.

Leaving us this Saturday are Office Manager Emily Goertz, and Cooks Sovilla Plank and Fannie Mae Yoder.  New cooks Marjorie and Richard Heatwole arrive on Saturday.

On behalf of the Conroe, TX team, Emily Goertz
