Conroe, TX – Aug 17-23, 2025
We say goodbye to Conroe and close this site until it re-opens in January 2026. Twenty-eight job cards have been completed since work began on May 27, 2025. We give thanks that the families finally have repaired homes after suffering from disaster. Our volunteers this week were a group of 11 young folks from Washington, IN who were well skilled and able to accomplish difficult tasks. We signed off five job cards this week.
The LaFaitey house was completed after 463 hours of volunteer labor. They are so happy to have repairs completed after a neighbor’s tree blew down onto their roof. Isabella is thrilled with her room. Tamare and Isabella joined us for supper on Wednesday evening and shared about their experiences and expressed their thanks for restoring their home.
Electrical, painting and trim work were the ongoing tasks at the El-Ali house until it was finally completed after 507 volunteer hours. We are thankful that another home was made comfortable for the family again after flooding.
Enduring temperatures in the high 90’s, a crew sweated through repairing rafters and replacing a roof. When they arrived at the house Wednesday morning after a rain storm, the homeowner was thrilled to announce that they could finally say there were no leaks!
A crew worked on a house of a single mom who only spoke Spanish and her three children. The roof was patched and damp subfloor was replaced with a sturdy living room floor. The highlight for this crew was when the cat came flying into the room and took a big leap without realizing there was no floor and fell into a floor joist. They never saw the cat again!
Thursday evening, we were treated to a pizza supper by Matthew Corley from the First Methodist Church of Conroe.
To show our thanks to the Texas Area Conference of the Methodist Church, a crew replaced screws on the roof of the building that MDS has called home for the past 4 months.
We ended our week with a home dedication and tree planting for David and Karma Springfield. From July 7 – August 12, volunteers worked 1,222 hours to restore their home to a safe, comfortable space. Marcus Carlson from the Hope Disaster Recovery team joined us. We planted a crape myrtle and a fig tree as a gift to the Springfields.
This is the long-term leadership team, Denis Sabourin, Cindy Steiner, Ryan Sprunger, Mitch Kingsley, Dave Norris, Dan Steiner, Tina Miller and Gwen Hershberger signing off from Conroe, TX.
