This week was filled with volunteers mostly under the age of 25, other than the long-term volunteers. We accomplished a lot of work throughout the week: Metal roofs were put on, windows were installed, drywall and mudding was started.

During sharing time on Tuesday, one volunteer mentioned how well the mudding in a home was going. By Thursday the tune changed when he reflected on the day’s work. “Today we spent all day sanding, we got to reap what we sowed and we sowed generously!” By that he meant they had put on too much mud and now were working on bringing something not pretty to something manageable!

As we work with volunteers, we need to keep in focus our goal is a to bring a family home. But another goal probably more important than the first is to build up our volunteers, providing them with training and an experience that will help them serve with MDS as well as in life. Every volunteer brings value to MDS. As it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:11: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
