Barrington, NS – Sept 14-20, 2025
This week, we welcomed eight volunteers from Salmon Arm, BC, Chilliwack, BC, Reinfeld, MB, Winnipeg, MB, and Port Moody, BC.
The weather was mainly sunny in the early part of the week with short rainy periods. Here is a brief update on progress at the MDS new build site.
This week the crew worked at insulating the walls and installing the poly. The district building inspector dropped by and was pleased to be able to give us a verbal go-ahead to proceed with drywall installation.
Thankfully, one of this week’s volunteers had experience installing all the intakes and exhausts as needed for the air exchanger. Discussions were had with others experienced with Air Exchanger installation to provide guidance for the installation. The range hood and dryer vent were also plumbed in allowing for a smooth drywall installation.
On Friday, we had blown-in insulation for the entire attic. After 4 hours or so the attic was completed.
Four of our nearby neighbours joined us for supper on Thursday. Many stories were heard but the star of the show was 8-year-old “M.” She had fun referring to us as ‘Midnighters’ (mispronounced Mennonites 😊). The same folks have also showered us with ample fresh seafood which we have sampled.
We continue to value your prayers for safety. We are in regular contact with the building inspectors who have an office 15 minutes away from the site.
Plans for the upcoming week: We hope to move forward with drywall installation including the ceiling and washroom and see if taping and mudding continue as well.
