This week, we welcomed eight volunteers from Salmon Arm, BC, Petitcodiac, New Brunswick, Wellesley, Ontario, and Port Moody, BC.

The weather was mainly sunny in the early part of the week with short windy periods. Here is a brief progress update at the MDS new-build site.

Ivan and Peter made a preparatory trip a few weeks earlier to contact many of the service and material suppliers needed for our build in Barrington.

The homeowner is a 66-year-old retired fisherman. He put his expert rope skills to work for us and braided a loop on 2 thick ropes which we used to haul trusses onto the tops of the walls.

One unique aspect of this project is that all the materials are being supplied by one company including the roof trusses, siding, fixtures, drywall, dimension lumber, paint, and flooring.

We had a wonderful answer to prayer before we even prayed it. We were strategizing how we were going to cover up rigid insulation around the perimeter of the concrete.  The hardware store didn’t have the flashing we were looking for, but they gave us a contact for a fellow who provided the surface less than 1 km from the store. We met him and not only was he able to help us, but he also dropped his current work to help us out – now the flashing is installed.

On Thursday, the water system at our camp failed mid-shower for one volunteer, leaving the hall with no water. We finally got the water going again – phew, thank you Lord. Alternate arrangements are being made for a standby water source.

A memorable week it was with very tasty suppers (including curry and pork chops) to reward the hard work. We continue to value your prayers for safety.

We are in regular contact with the building inspectors who have an office 15 minutes away from the site. We hope to complete the roof sheeting, exterior vapour barrier, window and door installs this coming week.
