Adams Lake, BC – May 25-31, 2025
Our crew included a total of 12 volunteers this week. The homeowner, Heather, and her son Darian continue to work on the build. Three day volunteers joined us this week including Randy, Lee-Ann and Neil. Lee-Ann helped in the kitchen on Wednesday, bringing pretty cupcakes and other treats. And then Lee-Ann and Neil helped paint baseboard on Friday; they are first time volunteers with MDS! Stan Friesen and scholarship student, Reese, both from Steinbach, Manitoba, completed week four. Ken, from Okotoks, Alberta, completed a third week. And Florence and Sheryl continued to ensure we stayed well nourished! Reg Walde kept the camp running. And Ivan and Cheryl Giesbrecht from Linden, Manitoba, continued as Project Director and Office Manager.
We welcomed Peter and Susan Thiessen, Project Coordinators, on Thursday evening. It’s been wonderful to review our progress and learnings with them. Ken’s wife Dianna travelled with Peter and Susan to be reunited after almost four weeks of separation!
The soffit work at David and Tammy’s is now complete.
Heather’s house is moving along quickly! Siding and soffit are in progress; the deck rail and front stairs are complete; poly is in place and all drywall hung and screwed. The inspector passed the insulation and poly, and we passed the air test with flying colors!
We are looking forward to taping and mudding the interior. Then on to painting.
A picnic at one of Heather’s friends’ place was a highlight for volunteers this week. Heather’s friend Connie has a beach front property on Adams Lake. It was picturesque, idyllic, balmy and restful. Thank you, Connie, for sharing your space!
Goodbyes are part of the regular routine at MDS responses, but not easy. We blessed Stan and Reese, roasted them royally and sent them on their way. They will be missed!
