Adams Lake, BC – May 18-24, 2025
We have a wonderful group of volunteers, including the homeowner, Heather, and her adult son Darian. Three local day volunteers joined us this week: Randy from Chase, Paul from Sorrento, and Dan from Blind Bay. John Nikkel, traveling from MB to BC, joined us on Sunday and volunteered his time on Monday. Ken, from Okotoks, Alberta, completed a second week. Stan Friesen and scholarship student, Reese, both from Steinbach, Manitoba, completed week three. Florence and Sheryl continued to provide amazing meals and coffee breaks! Reg Walde kept the camp running. And Ivan and Cheryl Giesbrecht from Linden, Manitoba, began their first week as Project Director and Office Manager. A total of 14 volunteers this week.
We enjoyed having Nikki, Communications Coordinator, from the MDS Canada office join us for an overnight visit. Interviews happened with the homeowner and a few volunteers, and now we are all looking forward to reading the stories.
As we have time, we have been volunteering labour at the neighbour’s house — siding, installing soffit and caulking as needed on the exterior. The siding is now complete.
Heather’s house now has a deck! Siding is in progress and smart trim is completed. A highlight was having the trades do the electrical, plumbing and heating; lots of activity! Another highlight was receiving the inspector go ahead to do insulation and poly.
We anticipate an air test, insulation and poly inspection next week. Pending approval, we will begin boarding and possibly taping.
We found it rather humorous that the reliable truck arrives to empty the porta-potty behind the kitchen, just as we’re about to have our coffee break. Impeccable timing!
