Adams Lake, BC – May 11-17, 2025
Week three was a continuation of framing at Heather’s. At David and Tammy’s, we had three volunteers work on siding all week. Heather’s house now has tin on the roof. Framing is complete. The heating contractor showed up a week early and is mostly finished so that plumbing and electrical can proceed next week. Framing completed early allowed us to almost finish the drywall at David and Tammy’s on Friday. After much discussion, we are planning to save Heather’s existing deck which was only three years old, and later attach it to her new deck. This is still a work in progress. We made a tool room and painting booth in Heather’s existing shed and this is working very well.
I always hoped to use local volunteers for fill-ins. For next week, we have been able to schedule local help for every day to help with siding. They are coming from River of Life Church. It is also noteworthy that the Evangelical Free Church is regularly assisting with lunches and desserts. Ivan and Cheryl arrived on Tuesday and by Friday had taken ownership of their leadership roles. I am confident they will direct the next four weeks very well.
In summarizing the last three weeks, we are well ahead of our nine-week schedule, especially when we consider the amount of work we have been able do at David and Tammy’s. Quietly, they have become a full part of this response. They had optimistically hoped we might be able to help them with siding. I think we will be able to finish their house alongside Heather’s. The scorched hillsides have become a vibrant green with many flowers. The local folk are now already able to see the new beauty. Susan and I were able to visit all four families from last summer’s response. They have all settled in well.
