The first week of building was beyond amazing. First off, the homeowner Heather and her son Darian said they were committed to being everyday workers. Of course, this meant that they are with us at all meals and other functions. Because of their help, I always had extra volunteers to provide the support we had promised to David and Tammy, next door. We’ve given about 50 hours to help with their house build so far. Inspections are critical to keeping volunteers busy and the TNRD has been very supportive. Local volunteers came to assist with the slab pour. Reg was busy keeping the camp running smoothly and supplying materials. I definitely had the A team with me in week one. Having Ross and Moses with us for two days was a morale boost as we started up the project. Heather warned us that the resident rooster, “The Boss,” would wake us up with the sunrise. I suggested that we get the cooks to make chicken noodle soup. She wasn’t impressed and moved The Boss to the far corner of the yard. I think we have a truce.
