MDS has welcomed Tim Schrag as the new Region 3 board chair. The region includes Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas.

Schrag, a retired pastor, lives in Goessel, Kansas, with his wife Sue. He first learned about MDS as a small boy growing up in central Kansas, when his father volunteered to help clean up after floods and tornadoes.

Schrag’s first volunteer service with MDS was during the aftermath of the 1979 tornado in Wichita Falls, Texas, which destroyed more than 20,000 homes. He also volunteered for three one-week stints after Hurricane Katrina.

Now attending the Eden Mennonite Church, Schrag said he looks forward to tapping the “abundant good will” among churches and people in the region. “I want MDS Region 3 to continue to be a conduit for matching up good will and disaster survivors in need,” he said.

Schrag replaces Wayne and Carole Stucky, who, after hosting the MDS Annual Celebration, are planning to spend more time with their home church, the Southern Hills Mennonite Church, in Topeka, Kansas.
