Divide, Colorado – In late May and early June volunteers from Kansas felled around 20 trees and removed 35 major stumps from the property of the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp (RMMC) in an effort to combat spruce beetles which kill some trees. The dead trees later become a fire hazard.

This is the third year in a row MDS volunteers from units of MDS Region 3 which includes Colorado have assisted the camp with managing the trees.

This time volunteers from Colorado, Kansas and New Mexico let the change saws and wood chippers ring as they carefully felled the trees so as not to disrupt the forest.

In July the youth group from First Mennonite Church in Newton, Kansas, will head to RMMC and do the clean-up work.
