“I have hands. I can work. I can help my neighbours.” That’s what Kevin Shantz, a roofing contractor from Drayton, Ont. says about why he serves with Mennonite Disaster Service every winter when work at home is slow.

For him, the idea of escaping winter for a bit is welcome. But sitting on a beach isn’t a priority.

“I don’t want to sit on a beach when people are in bad shape and need help. The least I can do is help them,” he says.

MDS has a need for volunteers in Texas, North Carolina, California, West Virginia and Ontario. For more information, call 1-800-241-8111 or visit https://mds.mennonite.net/volunteer/
