Some weeks on a project site offer an unexpected adventure, and you never know what new friends you may make along the way. This was one of those weeks in Louisiana.

Volunteers at the Point Au Chien, Louisiana project from March 8-14 found a creative way to travel between job sites. Using scrap wood on hand, one team built a small boat and sailed the bayou to a second home being worked on downstream. Local fishermen, heading back from a day at sea, stopped to look it over and left the team with fresh crab they had just caught.

The cooks rose to the occasion. What followed was a full team effort to crack open and enjoy every bit of it.

Later in the week, a local neighbor took the group out on the water for a dolphin cruise. Nine porpoises jumped together in the bayou, something locals said was rare to see.

Back at camp, visiting volunteers brought music with them. The long-term team was treated to an evening of piano and accordion that filled the space with something warm and unexpected.

Point Au Chien has a way of giving back to those who come to serve. Each week seems to bring its own quiet gifts, to the residents and to the volunteers who show up for them.

We give thanks to God for the community that forms around this work, and for the blessings that meet volunteers where they are.
