What Happened
On August 18, 2023, the Bush Creek East Wildfire ran through the North Shuswap Region, destroying 176 structures throughout Scotch Creek, Lee Creek, and Celista. MDS is responding in the communities of Celista and Scotch Creek.
What MDS Is Doing
Scotch Creek and Celista are small towns located on the north shores of the Shuswap Lake in the Thompson Okanagan region of BC. The towns are accessed via the Squilax Bridge off Highway 1 between Chase and Sorrento and the Squilax-Anglemont Highway along the lake.
MDS is responding in the communities of Celista and Scotch Creek, rebuilding three homes and assisting with other smaller projects in the community.
Location
The Shuswap Lake consists of four arms, a shape reminiscent of a letter H. MDS will be working near the Shuswap arm located to the west. The other arms are Salmon Arm southwest, the Anstey Arm in the northeast and the Seymour Arm in the north.
