What Happened
In August 2023, wildfires ravaged Maui, causing significant damage. The fires affected both local residents and the island’s natural landscapes. Over 13,000 people have been displaced during the Maui Wildfires with over 2,000 buildings destroyed.
What MDS Is Doing
Family Life Center has created ‘Ohana Hope Village to address temporary housing for survivors of the Lahaina fire. MDS is being requested to help finish this project. MDS is being asked to send volunteers in October and November.
Location
Family Life Center in partnership with multiple organizations across the community are working to construct a midterm housing solution, ‘Ohana Hope Village.
