What Happened
The Niagara region of Ontario was hit by three large storms in early August, 2026, that dumped over 300 millimetres (one foot) of rain on places like St. Catharines, Jordan, Vineland, Camden, Beamsville, and surrounding areas. According to the City of St. Catharines, the “historic” rainfall overwhelmed infrastructure, including roads, sewers, and drainage systems, causing flooding that led to thousands of flooded basements.
What MDS Is Doing
Local MDS volunteers began by helping their neighbours who experienced flooding in their homes. This grassroots response turned into an MDS unit project as the Ontario unit got more involved.
MDS volunteers continue to drain and muck-out basements in collaboration with Samaritan’s Purse and Christian Aid Ministries. Anyone looking to volunteer is asked to contact Daryl Martin at darylmartin.cows@gmail.com or (519) 505-6639.
