What Happened

On May 26, 2023, the Barrington Lake Wildfire swept through the community of Barrington, Nova Scotia, burning 23,379 hectares and destroying or damaging more than 100 homes and buildings.

What MDS Is Doing

MDS volunteers will focus on building one new home in fall 2025. Volunteer accommodations will be in the nearby community of Shelburne, Nova Scotia.

Location

Barrington is an Atlantic coastal community known as the “Lobster Capital of Canada." Located at the southernmost part of Nova Scotia, the area is known for its fresh seafood, beautiful beaches, lighthouses and ocean views. It is a popular hiking and birding destination.
