Assistant Cook

The Assistant Cook assists in the preparation and serving of well-balanced nutritious meals.

Tasks

  • Assist in preparing two hot and nutritious meals per day and provide food for a sack lunch and breaks, from Monday breakfast to Friday dinner.
  • Set out sack lunches in the morning
  • Follow food safety standards in food preparation and kitchen/dining room sanitation as outlined in the MDS Field Guide.
  • Complete other tasks as directed by the Head Cook
  • Wash dishes and clean the kitchen/dining area
  • Assist in the purchase of food and kitchen supplies, trying to support local business if possible.
  • Assist with other tasks, as requested (eg. cleaning, running errands, etc.)

More Information

  • Must be a Christian and active participant in a church
  • Proven Christian servant leadership skills
  • Ability to do food preparation, cooking, and cleaning tasks as directed
  • Familiarity with nutrition and food safety guidelines preferred
  • Experience in preparing meals for large groups preferred
  • Able to delegate tasks as required
  • Organizational skills
  • Is a team player and team builder
  • Proven communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility, patience, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor
  • Enjoys working with volunteers
