Good to Make a Difference

Brian Marten of Pincher Creek, Alberta, wasn’t planning on doing service in Grand Forks, B.C. with Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS). But his friend Jim Dyck was going, and he invited him to come along. So he did.

“Jim suggested I should come, that it was a great experience,” said Marten, 74, of his first time with the organization. And how it is?

“I like it,” said Marten, a member of the Spring Ridge Mennonite church who is retired from farming and working in the oil patch.

“It’s well organized, and everyone is intent on getting the job done,” he said, adding he also enjoys the camaraderie.

Will he do MDS again? He thinks so. “It’s good to make a difference for people who need help,” he said.
