This week the West Asheville MDS site was bustling with the addition of the North Carolina Bridges group of 11 men along with the 10 men and women serving with the West Asheville MDS group.
One of the yearlong volunteers, Mary Joyce Wise, has spent the last 6 weeks here and has taken on the responsibility of making sure the seemingly never ending tasks for the RSAA building are getting completed. Her check list of tasks like flooring, painting, door knobs, repairing holes in the walls, etc are getting checked off one by one.
Simon and Lukas, the other 2 year long volunteers led a team of 4 to repair 2 houses that the Valley of Hope Church requested assistance with. Their tasks included finishing the structural beams at the Gay house and installing hardie board at the Floriani home.
The RSAA building has over 45 oversized windows so installing Fauxwood blinds kept a couple volunteers busy.
As we wait for occupancy in the RSAA building, we have been housing volunteers in the RV park across the street and in hotels. Grateful for the housing provisions but we can all agree it’s not an ideal situation to connect and develop relationships that is a hallmark of the MDS experience.
September Longterm volunteers Larry Stoner, Helmut & Karin Hein, Stu & Starla landis and 2 of the Yearlong volunteers, Simon Martin and Lukas Houben leave West Asheville this week, grateful for the RSAA connections and all the tasks completed and pray that God will continue to open up opportunities to rebuild homes and build relationships as the October long term Volunteers arrive….Fred Hershey, Jeanie Lee- Mosier, Steve & Kathy Rhodes, David Norris, Larry Loganbill and Ponci Canaviri.
