Liberty Texas RV Project
Week of Jan 20, 2025

This week there were a total of 9 volunteers at the project in Liberty, TX. The volunteers were again divided between two projects:

On Tuesday, Jan 21, 2025 the team was forced to take a snow day due to the weather. The team had a new volunteer arrive on Wednesday morning. The volunteer didn’t do much work: all he/she did was hold the spanner wrench! (The volunteer was a snowman dressed in MDS attire with a wrench in hand). Nevertheless, he/she turned out to be a good morale booster and we all had a good laugh!

Work continued in Handley’s home (Home #2). This home is receiving major repairs.  It is hoped the team will be able to finish the work by the end of this week: drywalling, painting, installing the shower and accessible sink, and finishing the casings and baseboards. The homeowners, having both undergone open heart surgery, are so grateful for the supplies and the help. After the flooding in the spring of 2024, Mr. Handley said that he was ready to give up on his home because he could not afford the repairs, and then MDS showed up to help.

Work on home #3 started this past week on Monday (a 14′ wide mobile home). This coming week, the team will complete the ceiling repair from a leaky roof, finish building the outside front stairs, and finish laying new flooring where flood waters entered the home. It is hoped that work on Home #3 will be completed this week. Pictured here is project director Fred Miller building new steps for the mobile home.

If time allows both teams will start work on Home #4 in Cleveland, Texas at the end of the week.
