This week of work held the surprise of including not only the regular MDS crew signed up for the week, but also 22 workers originally scheduled to do bridge work in W. Virginia.  They and others were skilled skid steer, excavator and chainsaw operators. So, we were a large crew of 35!  There were also some day workers and at times we were a crew of 40+.
The work this week included helping over 20+ homeowners by felling trees that hung over driveways, cutting up others, and clearing debris for access to buildings.  One crew worked to install four culverts at 6’x20’  to give access to a church.  Lutheran Disaster Response funded the project and MDS provided the labor and equipment. On the rainy day, many worked inside on five 10×12 sheds that will be given to people living in tents.  The sheds were donated from Ohio.  Here we installed electrical receptors, insulation and wall covering inside.
MDS continues to get calls for clearing brush and trees from properties.  Locals here say there were over 1 million trees that came down during the storm.
