Port Charlotte, FL – Dec. 1-7, 2024
This month we transitioned to a new leadership team: Peter (Construction Supervisor) and Margaret (Head Cook) Goertzen, Erv (Crew Leader) and Esther (Assistant Cook) Wilms, Daryl Horst (Crew Leader), Andrew Zimmerman (Long-term Volunteer), Ed Martin (Crew Leader), and Dayton (Project Director) and Gayle (Office Manager) Frey.
We enjoyed having a group of 7 young women volunteers and their driver from Indiana and a family of 3 from Tennessee. The young women from Indiana shared some wonderful singing with us.
We spent our time at two locations, mostly hanging drywall, taping, and mudding. We installed some doors. We also installed flooring and trim and did some painting. It was rewarding to hear the volunteers learn about the new skills they were acquiring.
The Wintergarden Presbyterian Church is a very busy place. They have a food bank on Thursdays and several volunteers helped disburse those food boxes. They had a Christmas Pancake Breakfast for the community on Saturday, so since we didn’t have access to the kitchen the long-term volunteers had an outing to Perkins for breakfast.
