Port Charlotte, FL – Nov. 17-23, 2024
Greetings from Port Charlotte, Florida. This week we welcomed a group of fifteen consisting of youth and adults from Ohio and the Shenandoah Valley.
The repair work to homes continues from the aftermath of Ian. The week was spent painting, shelving, and installing baseboard and kitchen countertops. A roof was completed at the beginning of the week. Eight windows were removed and installed to complete another project. Wednesday morning, the cooks and office manager along with two volunteers spent several hours assisting a client to move her personal belongings from her house. Thursday a cloud of dust rolled from her house as concrete adhesive was ground off her concrete floors. Friday the dust was cleaned up using multiple shop vacs and brooms. She kept volunteers entertained with the multiple native birds congregating at her house for food.
Thursday evening volunteers went to a local beach to collect seashells and enjoy a spectacular sunset. As the week closes, we are thankful for each volunteer who has come to share their time and talent. May we continue to bring hope to this community who has experienced so much devastation.
Be Blessed,
Janet for the Port Charlotte Team
