“Everything is good now,” says James Towers of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, after MDS volunteers repaired his house which was damaged by Hurricane Fiona.

The storm, which struck in September 2022, rendered the house unlivable; volunteers put on a new roof and fixed up interior water damage.

Towers and his partner, Sue, moved back in on August 1. “It’s nice to be back home,” he said. “It’s way better than it was before.”

A total of 458 volunteers from across Canada provided over 32,000 hours of service for 272 families and community organizations in Cape Breton in response to Hurricane Fiona.
