Denare Beach, SK – May 3-9, 2026
We thank God for a good start to the Denare Beach project. On April 28, our crew of amazing drivers made it into Denare Beach, bringing in a number of trucks and trailers to set up camp. For the next few days, they worked hard to build bunks, set up RV sites, prepare equipment, excavate building sites, plan for materials to be delivered, and get acquainted in the community. That weekend we joined the Cornerstone Community Church (Mennonite Brethren church in Flin Flon) for worship.
The first group of weekly volunteers arrived on Sunday evening to begin the project. One of our biggest worries was the weather. It is not always guaranteed that the frost will be out of the ground, even when you start in May. But as our crew began digging the week prior, we were blessed with good ground that was then ready for the weekly volunteers to set footings.
The largest group of volunteers this week were students from Conrad Grebel University College in Waterloo. It was great to have their young energy alongside MDS scholarship students from Steinbach Bible College and Canadian Mennonite University in Manitoba. Our volunteers for this week came from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Oklahoma.
We are building four new homes and one foundation for 5 families affected by the Wolf wildfire last year. We continue to get to know the homeowners and their families and are blessed by their presence on site and at camp.
By the end of the week, we had most of the footings poured and started on framing basements, with that work continuing next week. Every so often there is a delivery that comes from Saskatchewan which then requires work to store the material supplies properly on site.
We are thankful for the ongoing prayer support for all those travelling and working on this project. God has been good to us!
