It’s been another wonderful week serving in the community of Denare Beach. This week brought together a large group of volunteers with skills and energy to get a lot done.

We enjoyed a visit from homeowner Steve, who served up a walleye fish-fry for Wednesday supper. Delicious! Hearing him tell stories of the time leading up to the fire was a solemn reminder of the stress the residents of Denare Beach experienced in those difficult days. June 2 will mark the anniversary of the fire and commemorations are being planned.

Volunteers gathered together to raise walls on some of the homes this week. It’s a great feeling when those walls rise up!

An evening visit to the Denare Beach museum was an opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of the area.

To wrap up the week, with ice still on most of the lake, volunteers Josh and Nick raised funds for MDS by going for a polar dip! Everyone else cheered them on and stayed warm and dry.

It is truly a privilege to share God’s love by serving with MDS in this beautiful place of Denare Beach.
