What Happened
Hurricane Michael made landfall near Mexico Beach, FL on October 10, 2018 as a Category 5 Hurricane with sustained winds of 160mph. By the time it reached Marianna it was a Category 3 hurricane. It was the third-most intense Atlantic hurricane to make landfall in the contiguous United States. Hurricane Michael caused at least $14.5 billion dollars in damages.
Volunteer in Marianna, FL RVWhat MDS Is Doing
MDS volunteers will be staying at RV sites at Evangel Church in Marianna, FL. All of the sites have 30 and 50-amp hookups available. RV volunteers will be doing repair work which includes drywall repair, flooring, painting, trim work, kitchen cabinets, replacing interior and exterior doors and/or windows, and building ramps and repairing porches. There is the possibility of one new build happening as well.
Location
Marianna is the county seat of Jackson County, FL, which is in the ‘panhandle’ of Florida. Marianna has a population of approximately 7,300 people and the Chipola River forms the eastern border of the city. The downtown area has been restored to encourage tourism. Florida Caverns State Park is located just to the north of Marianna.
