Mechanical and Tool Specialist (ETS)

Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) is seeking a skilled and mission-driven Mechanical and Tool Coordinator to join our Fleet and Logistics team in Columbus, MS. This hands-on role is essential to ensuring that the vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment used in disaster response are safe, reliable, and ready to serve communities in need. Primary Responsibilities

To service and repair the Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) equipment stored in Columbus, MS warehouse.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to the Fleet and Logistics Manager (FLM)

Responsibilities

  1. Identify and facilitate maintenance and repairs of vehicles, trailers, equipment, and tools
  2. Prepare/receive/process vehicles, trailers, equipment, tools and supplies to/from projects including proper documentation
  3. Troubleshoot needed repairs to determine next steps
  4. Perform vehicle repairs as able
  5. Collaborate with warehouse coordinator and volunteers
  6. Assist with project set up and closing as needed

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and passion for the MDS mission, vision and core values 
  • Active Participant in a local Christian Church 
  • Affirm and emulate Anabaptist values and convictions and the Mennonite World Conference Shared Convictions 
  • Demonstrated commitment to the MDS lifestyle expectations as outlined in the Employee Policy Handbook 
  • Three or more years of equipment maintenance experience  
  • One or more years of experience working with people of another culture 
  • High School or GED diploma required 
  • Driver’s license required, CDL Class A preferred 

Essential Skills

  • Intermediate understanding of equipment maintenance and repair 
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team with supervision from the Fleet and Logistics Manager  
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills 
  • Interacts and communicates well with people  
  • Ability to interact with and be sensitive to a diverse constituent group 
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word 
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure 
  • Ability to plan and follow a work plan while maintaining great flexibility 
  • Physical requirements: Work involves considerable physical exertion such as lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs. 
  • Work environment: Involves moderate risks working around equipment and vehicles. May be required to wear protective equipment and clothing
